UVM In-Service English Training Courses

Developing Internet Activities

 Project I: Introduction

(Note: All assignments that must be turned in are in green. Your answers do NOT have to be publishable in a professional journal. Write only what is needed to answer the questions. You will NOT be graded on your English. Remember, NO ONE is perfect...not even me. Send all assignments to: JoAnn Miller (miller@netservice.com.mx). You can begin the next assignment before you get your feedback. You may be asked to rewrite something, but you cannot FAIL this course.)

The purpose of this activity is to let you know what you will be able to do when you finish this course. Enjoy and don’t get scared away.

(1) This sites is a short introduction to the Internet. Just read it. If you are an Internet expert...skip this part.

Basic Internet  This is a basic introduction to the Internet. Just read it. Write me if you have any questions.

(2) Visit the following site that has some web activities you can use in class.
Working the Web for Education: Theory and Practice on Integrating the Web for Learning, by Tom March. This article is a little long, but it’s entertaining. There are many links throughout the article. Examine at least three or four of the activities (links). For each activity you visit, answer the following questions:
                                                            Did you like this activity?
Do you think you could use it?
If so, for which course, book and unit could you use this activity?
How would you use it (be specific)?
(Send me the answers.)

(3) Visit the following site.  Integrating the Internet into the Classroom by my teacher Michael Krauss. These are Scenarios. They are activities made by participants in the course I took. These were made by real classroom teachers, just like you. If they can do them, so can you. Examine one or two of them. For each activity you visit, answer the following questions:
                                                            Did you like this activity?
Do you think you could use it?
If so, for which course, book and unit could you use this activity?
How would you use it (be specific)?
(Send me the answers.)

(4) Finally visit this site. Web-based Activities Created with Filamentality again by Michael Krauss.  These are some other activities created in that class. Again, examine one or two of them. For each activity you visit, answer the following questions:
                                                            Did you like this activity?
Do you think you could use it?
If so, for which course, book and unit could you use this activity?
How would you use it (be specific)? (Send me the answers.)
